However, we shall be sending Christmas ‘Meals on Wheels’, to all our usual guests who have not been scooped up by family, kind friends or neighbours.
As ever we have an amazing merry band of helpers who will take hot Christmas lunches with all the trimmings, including crackers with bad jokes, and a bottle with bubbles, to our friends. They will stay a while to keep them company and share a little festive cheer, whilst socially distancing.
This year more than ever it is important to go the extra mile to ensure everyone is keeping safe, well and optimistic. The press and media, the BBC in particular, have been pumping out so much doom and gloom, sending listeners spiraling into a deep depression, as they paint the very worst picture of the future, be it the Pandemic or Brexit.
Shame on them for making little or no attempt to lift people’s spirits. It is little wonder increasing numbers have mental health issues.
The public are more resilient and sensible than they are given credit for by those trying to undermine the very people who are 'getting it done.'
We should be excited and optimistic in anticipation for what the New Year will bring. Things can only get better as the vaccine is being rolled out, and Brexit is finally signed sealed and delivered on 31st December.
This is an historic moment for the United Kingdom as we gain our freedom from the oppressive shackles of the EU. How anyone can consider being part of this crumbling, undemocratic and outdated institute, which has clearly lost its sense of direction and purpose, is beyond comprehension.
My family along with 17,410,742 others, will be celebrating a fresh start on New Year’s Eve.
There is much to celebrate about our remarkable and unique nation. As Calvin Robinson said in his excellent column in the Daily Mail, “Our political system has not been scarred by extremism, nor has our society been gripped by racial discord. This despite a minority who pose as the champions of anti-racism but who promote friction as they seek to paint Britain as a land wracked by bigotry”.
This attitude was fueled by the ‘diversity and inclusion training’, which amongst others, became a requirement for all Whitehall staff, since 2014. Fortunately the cabinet Office has announced that ‘unconscious bias training’ will be scrapped for the civil service, having found the course did nothing for equality and were even counterproductive as they fueled resentment. Having been subjected to such ‘training’, I can only agree.
As Mr. Robinson said, “The decision is absolutely correct, the review only confirmed that the bias training is, put simply, a load of bunkum”.
It is now time to call a halt to those who try to silence free speech. Including putting the fear of God into comedians who are so terrified of offending that they now only target politicians who appear to be ‘fair game’, with their left wing so called ‘humour’, which is mostly in poor taste and offensive.
Hopefully one day soon, comedians - come back Dave Allen, columnists and individuals will be allowed to raise topics and say what they think without being silenced, in case someone is ‘offended’!
Christmas will be different this year but our parents and grandparents coped with far worse, as they experienced real fear and hardship during the first and second World Wars.
We should be grateful that we live in one of the safest countries in world. One which others recognise as being a democratic safe haven, and a land of opportunity, even if we don’t. This is Great Britain and none of us should forget it.
I wish you a very safe and Happy Christmas.
