It is clear by reading and observing the chaos and dangers perpetrating the Middle East, Ukraine, and other areas of conflict, that ‘world peace’ has never been so out of reach and unattainable since WW2. It is also clear there is a worrying pattern to these conflicts which undermine Western powers including Europe, the USA, and Great Britain.
There are those who believe that this is being deliberately mastermind by Russia, China, North Korea, Irian, Pakistan, and some Middle East and Arab states, purposely depleting the West’s reserves of weapons, fuel, finances, and food.
The balance of world power is shifting at an alarming rate, which makes those who suggest Ukraine will eventually fall to Putin’s Russia, and Israel become isolated and toothless as Arab nations expand the conflict, increasingly plausible.
Those who have watched the nightmare vision depicted in ‘Leave The World Behind’, Netflix’s film starring Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke, understand the danger of the Western World becoming over dependent on modern technology for our everyday needs. Without power, communications, water and food supplies, transport, hospitals, and security life as we know it grinds to a halt.
The drive to be wholly reliant upon electricity for just about everything including transport is dangerous. Tractors can no longer be repaired by farm mechanics but rely on technicians with computers to diagnose and fix problems. The days of fixing them in our workshops except for vintage ones has long gone. If someone pulls the plug on the UK’s power network as could happen someday, the whole country will grind to a halt.
Supermarket shelves will empty, homes become cold, dark and without running water. Public transport will cease and only those with access to petrol or diesel vehicles will be able to get about.
As the production of traditionally produced British food is reduced because of the obsession with re-wilding, replacing food crops with trees and good land into meadows for the benefit of wildlife and the public, within days the population will grow hungry and desperate.
Mega livestock farms replacing traditional farms, will struggle without computer systems and robotic milking. There will be few fields to turn out livestock or people to milk cows by hand which will cause them to suffer as absent calves are unable relieve their pain as udders fill to bursting point.
As we enter 2024 are politicians focused on such outcomes? Will they reassess the mad dash to Net Zero and total electrification, leaving the country unable to operate in such a scenario? Modern technology and electrification improve our lives but at what cos? It is easy to be over dramatic but also dangerous to bury our heads in the sand.
