There are types of fungi not seen for decades, many of which are deadly. Halloween is a good time to dry these lethal but innocent looking ingredients, as one never does know when they could come in handy!
The mayor of London is giving away 30,000 trees for people to plant in the capital. It should be asked if this gesture will make up for the thousands of mature trees which have been felled by penny pinching councils. Their disregard for the benefits generated by these oxygen giving trees, in heavily populated towns and cities across the country, is breath-taking.
Communities have been traumatised as they have watched high Vis clad men wielding ear shattering, angry sounding chain saws, methodically ravage their once green and tranquil tree lined streets, destroying magnificent healthy trees.
The ground is now saturated. If we are to get any further autumn planting done, we need a couple of dry weeks. Looking at the depressing forecasts, I would say chance will be a fine thing.
Many question what is the point of Police and Crime Commissioners. And why are these public officers so highly aligned to political parties, it is inappropriate and unhelpful.
It is also time that local councillors should cease to be aligned to political parties. Those wishing to represent their local village, town or community, should be elected for their competence not the colour of their rosette. The present system is resulting in communities ending up with second if not third best.
Too many of those standing for local government are merely cutting their political teeth, with an eye on advancement to Westminster. Not genuine individuals wishing to serve their community.
Alison Hermandez, the police and crime commissioner for Devon and Cornwall has recommended that women should dial 999 to report wolf-whistling. What is that all about?
Such advice coming from a supposedly intelligent PCC is madness, and will along with the sisterhood of hashtag #MeToo snowflakes, create a growing division between genders.
Joanna Williams, the author of Women vs Feminism makes a very compelling case for calling time on the #MeToo movement. As she said, it has resulted in a few high profile sex abusers being exposed, but has ruined the reputations of innocent men, and harmed women too.
#MeToo activists have made their definition of ‘sexual assault’ so trivial that vulnerable victims who have genuinely suffered traumatic experiences undermined.
Today a wolf-whistle, an innocent flirtation or kiss, or a hand brushing a knee, have been lumped into the same category as rape and other serious sexual offences. As Ms Williams said, “By broadening the definition of sexual assault #MeToo proponents have undermined its very meaning”.
In Sussex convictions for hate crimes are amongst the highest in the country, with a 92.9 per cent conviction rate. However, the population of Sussex is around one million and there were just 42 cases in 2018/19, down on the previous year. These numbers reflect the national average.
Douglas Murray highlights the nonsense perpetrated by those trying to paint the UK as an intolerant society. As he said, “Britain is one of the most tolerant places on Earth. But so called ‘hate crimes’, are being cooked up and served for political purposes”. He understandably questions why police forces are encouraging those reporting crime, including verbal abuse, to call it a ‘hate crime’, even when it is clearly not the case.
Tomorrow should be Independence Day. However Speaker Bercow by colluding with 485 Remain MPs representing 406 Leave constituencies (just 242 constituencies voted Remain), has probably ensured it is not!
