As a deputy Speaker to George Thomas, he regularly sat in the Speaker’s chair, and I cannot imagine that he or Speaker Thomas would have accepted the shocking behaviour of some MPs today. They clearly have little regard for the rules of the Commons, their colleagues, and evidently zero respect the Speaker or his deputies.
I blame John Bercow for diminishing the position of speaker. Having remained in post, unbelievably, from 2009 to 2019, he brought the post into disrepute with his aggressive, shabby, and partisan behavior.
In 2022, an independent Commons complaint body found he had persistently bullied his staff and shown them disrespect over the course of a decade. It concluded that had he still been in Parliament they would have recommended his expulsion as an MP. Subsequently he has been banned from ever setting foot in Parliamentary again.
Why was he allowed to remain as Speaker for all those years? Why was Mr Russell-Moyle who launched a vicious, foul mouthed assault last week on fellow Labour MP Rosie Duffield, as she defended women and single-sex spaces, not excluded from the House of Commons?
In past years he would have been frog marched out of the Palace of Westminster by the Serjeant at Arms.
Where have all the cats’ eyes gone? I have been wondering why it is becoming increasingly difficult to see the road ahead at night. I was beginning to think my eyesight was faulty, but no, the problem is that most cats’ eyes have gone missing.
Having done some research and asked around, it is clear many have been removed by councils and replaced by ‘reflective white lines’, or so called ‘intelligent’ studs which are ‘charged’ during daylight hours and supposed to reflect at night. Well, take it from me and others - they don’t.
Having taken a straw poll across a wide age range, it is clear there is a big problem. Statistics show the rate of accidents at night has increased since cats’ eyes started to be removed in 2015.
Someone should start a petition to ‘Bring Back Cats’ Eyes To Save Lives’. Whoever decided it was time to phase out Percy Shaw’s invaluable invention which saved thousands of lives, keeping motorists on the straight and narrow since 1934, should be aware the consequences are a disaster.
It is well known that Nicola Sturgeon is a member of the LGBT community which is why she was so keen on the Scottish Parliament’s Gender Reform Legislation. But she had to back pedal in the case of Adam Graham a rapist, who is pretending to be a woman (Isla Bryson) while hoping for a soft ride and being placed in a women’s prison. It is clear the First Minister by pushing this Bill through Holyrood, has gone too far this time.
